Retired News-Gazette sportswriter LOU ENGEL wants to say "howdy" (Nebraska term) to all his friends in C-U. Especially the fine folks at Pipa's Pub, one of his favorite local establishments.

Engel is now living the good life in his native Nebraska. He sold his home in Champaign to move closer to family in the Omaha area. He is near a golf course and is close to restaurants and grocery stores. The 80-ish-year-old Engel follows his beloved Cardinals from afar (he is not happy about the recent struggles) and keeps tabs on the Illini (Big Ten Network is a good thing).

Engel's five kids dot the Midwest, and he visits them as often as possible.

We miss Engel at The News-Gazette, where he did an excellent job covering prep sports over the years.

On to my weekend recommendations:

"The Talk," 1 p.m., CBS

Hosts Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert and friends welcome Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson, stars of the new HBO miniseries "Sharp Objects" (see below).

"Mr. Deeds," 7 p.m., Comedy Central

Who doesn't like a rags-to-riches story? Adam Sandler stars as the title character, who inherits billions from a long-lost relative. Stick around for the second half of the Sandler double feature, "Grown Ups."

"Sharp Objects," 8 p.m., HBO

Any time there is a movie or show involving journalists, T.O.T.M. is going to tell you to watch it. Here, Adams stars as a St. Louis reporter sent back to her tiny Missouri hometown to write about two murders. Reviews have been positive.
