State sweetening bid request for redevelopment of Eagle Creek Resort

State sweetening bid request for redevelopment of Eagle Creek Resort

SPRINGFIELD — The state says it's willing to chip in up to $500,000 toward the redevelopment of the shuttered Eagle Creek Resort and Conference Center on Lake Shelbyville.

The resort, built in 1987, has been closed since 2009 after mold was found throughout. At the time it was closed, Eagle Creek consisted of 138 rooms, a conference center, dining facilities, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a large boat dock and an 18-hole golf course. Only the golf course is still operating.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources released a second request for redevelopment proposals for the property early this month. The previous request garnered only one bid, which was rejected because state officials said it was incomplete.

As with the previous request, bidders can propose demolition of the existing resort.

All bids will be opened Aug. 16.
