Midday shooting in Champaign sends man to hospital

CHAMPAIGN — A man was shot in northwest Champaign in a drive-by shooting Saturday afternoon.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Curt Apperson said deputies were called at 12:46 p.m. to the 1400 block of Queens Way Drive, where shots were heard.

They found a 22-year-old man down in a front yard with at least two gunshot wounds. Apperson said preliminary information is that neither was life-threatening. The man is being treated at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana while detectives begin their work.

Apperson said witnesses said the shooter was in a vehicle but deputies do not have a good description of the shooter or the vehicle.
