Mahomet man gets probation for sex abuse of sleeping guest

URBANA — A Mahomet man who admitted he inappropriately touched a woman in his home earlier this year has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Kenny D. Watts, 55, who listed an address in the 1200 block of South McDougal Road, pleaded guilty in June to criminal sexual abuse for having contact with a woman who was sleeping on a couch in his home March 19. The woman reported the conduct to a relative, who called Mahomet police.

Judge Heidi Ladd accepted his plea then, and on Thursday, after having reviewed a sex-offender evaluation, she confirmed the agreement and imposed the sentence.

In exchange for Watts' plea, a more-serious charge of criminal sexual assault was dismissed.

Watts was also sentenced to 77 days in the county jail with credit for time served and ordered to pay fines and fees in excess of $700 and get sex-offender treatment.

He will also have to register as a sex offender.

Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Perry said Watts' only prior conviction was for driving under the influence in 1998.
