It's a busy stretch at Frasca Field in Urbana:

More than 20 kids from the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club spent a few hours enjoying a "Top Gun" experience, from putting on headsets to studying flight plans to actually taking a spin in the skies of C-U. Cool.

"The kids had a ball," said CHARLES BURTON, the club's director of operations. "For a lot of them, it was their first time (in a plane). I had a few say they're interested in becoming a pilot."

News-Gazette photographer Stephen Haas and staff writer Paul Wood will be passengers as the Experimental Aircraft Association brings the first mass-produced airliner to town.

Haas will tell his story aboard the Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT on Instagram (@news_gazette) at 1:30 p.m. and publish his photo gallery later.

Want to give it a try? EAA is offering public flights — for a price — through Sunday.
