Man arrested over video taken in restaurant bathroom

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly videotaped a teen while in a bathroom at a fast-food restaurant Friday is due in court Monday.

McShane Washington, 30, who listed an address in the 1600 block of West Bradley Avenue, was arrested Friday evening in connection with an unauthorized videotaping incident at a restaurant in the 1800 block of West Bradley Avenue. He posted bond and was released from jail Saturday.

Assistant State's Attorney Brooke Hinman said Champaign police reports said a 16-year-old boy was in a bathroom stall when he heard a beep and saw a phone from under the wall to an adjacent stall pointed at him.

The alleged videotaper left the restaurant, and the victim and his mom followed him and called police.

Police spoke to Washington, who they say admitted to making the recording and allowed them to search his phone.

Judge Brett Olmstead set bond for Washington at $7,500 and told him to be back in court Monday for formal charges.
