Take a bow, Danville. You produced two of the three greatest Illinois-born actors of all-time, according to online voting in the Illinois Top 200 project, a yearlong series being held in conjunction with the state's bicentennial birthday.


Age of the top vote-getter — Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner DICK VAN DYKE — like third-place GENE HACKMAN, one of Vermilion County's favorite sons. The runner-up: Illini fan BILL MURRAY, with HARRISON FORD (Chicago) and GARY SINISE (Blue Island) rounding out the top five.

Categories won by Illinoisans with local ties. We also went 1-for-2 in musicians, with REO Speedwagon edging fellow Champaign product ALISON KRAUSS and No. 3 NAT KING COLE. Two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bands also made the top 10: No. 4 Cheap Trick and No. 8 Earth Wind & Fire.


When the results will come in on the latest vote — top entertainer. Former Illini HUGH HEFNER has some rugged competition, including RICHARD PRYOR (Peoria), WALT DISNEY (Chicago) and QUINCY JONES (Chicago).
