BRIAN LOMAN grew up soaking in the stories — and strategy — of high school Hall of Famers LYLE LOMAN and BOB TRIMBLE.

His dad and uncle would go on and on, scribbling Xs and Os and swapping ideas until the wee hours.

Today, Brian, 49, is carrying the family torch. The owner of Loman-Ray Insurance, a four-sport star at ABL who played college baseball at Lake Land, remains interested — and invested — in the games he played and coached.

"I played all the sports I could," the '87 ABL grad said. "In the spring, we'd run track till 4, then run over to the baseball field for practice. We didn't think anything about it."

At 6 p.m. Monday, the "Loman-Ray Insurance Prep Football Confidential" radio show debuts on WDWS 1400-AM and WHMS 97.5-FM. It's an hourlong tribute to a sport that remains hugely popular in these parts.

Prep sports coordinator COLIN LIKAS will chat up area coaches and players as well as unveil our stars of the week and top 10 team rankings. The program will have a heavy social media presence — Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook — and be available via podcast at news-gazette.com.

It's the next, neat step for us, made timelier in that the IHSA football championships return to Memorial Stadium in November.

"I'm really looking forward to what's in store with this new radio show," Likas said. "Our readers can't get enough high school football, and this is just another way for us to give them what they want."
