Youth Mental Health First Aid training set Sept. 10 in Danville

DANVILLE — The next Youth Mental Health First Aid training for any adults who work with young people, either professionally or as a volunteer, or anyone who knows young people, is coming up Sept. 10.

Registration is now open for the free eight-hour training session that teaches a five-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or crisis. A free 200-plus-page manual is included.

The training session will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Vermilion County Health Department, 200 College St., Danville. To register or for more information, call Beth Bray Knecht at 217-516-2298.

The training is sponsored by the Vermilion County Mental Health Initiative, a group of mental-health providers and residents trying to raise awareness of mental-health issues in the community and working to expand access to services.
