Top of the Morning, Sept. 7, 2018

TERRI LIPSCOMB is keeping an eye on the weather forecast. But she has a plan if the expected rains come to Champaign-Urbana on Saturday night.

Lipscomb organized the first "Endless Summer," a benefit for Merci's Refuge, a women's residential home. Lipscomb, chief development officer for the organization, started planning in April.

"There's always a need to expand offer to more women," Lipscomb said. "We have room for 16. Right now, we serve eight. In order to increase, we're going to need to hire more staff and things like that."

The event, which was scheduled to be Saturday night at the corner of Main and Walnut streets in downtown Champaign, has been postponed until Sept. 22 because of the rainy weather C-U has gotten and is expected to get through Saturday. There will be live music from Da Ja Vu, with special guests Candy Foster, Scott Wattles & Blue Suede Crew, Tons O' Fun Band and Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets.

Admission is $10. Information is available at the event's page on the Merci's Refuge website.

On to my weekend recommendations:

TODAY"The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," 10:30 p.m., CBS

It's been a strong week for Colbert, who returned Tuesday from vacation. Guests included Rob Lowe, John Kerry and Emma Thompson. Tonight's lead guest is Sharon Osbourne.

SATURDAY"The Waterboy," 9 p.m., Comedy Central

Certainly one of the best films ever about a waterboy turned football star. Adam Sandler aces the lead role and gets help from supporting players Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler, Fairuza Balk and Jerry Reed.

SUNDAY"Shameless," 8 p.m., Showtime

T.O.T.M. sampled the premium channel and liked what he saw. Friends and critics say "Shameless" is one of the best shows on TV. Star William H. Macy has won multiple awards for his portrayal of Frank Gallagher.
