Champaign police, firefighters set 9/11 memorial Tuesday morning

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police and firefighters will mark the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States with a ceremony Tuesday.

The annual 9/11 Memorial ceremony will take place at 8:46 a.m. — to mark the moment the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center — at the Champaign Fire and Police Memorial in the northeast corner of West Side Park, 400 E. University Ave.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Mayor Deb Feinen, Fire Chief Gary Ludwig, and Associated Firefighters of Illinois President Pat Devaney.

It will conclude with a fire department bell ceremony and a police gun salute.
