Tropical storm's remnants filled up rain gauges in C-U, Illinois

Thanks to the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon, Champaign-Urbana — and the state of Illinois as a whole — have already topped the average rainfall mark for September.

Champaign-based state climatologist Jim Angel said 3.49 inches of rain fell locally over the weekend. C-U’s normal for the whole month is 3.13 inches.

Statewide, Angel said the average precipitation for the month stood at 3.55 inches. The normal mark for September: 3.24 inches.

Clay City, east of Saint Louis, gets the award for wettest spot in Illinois so far this month with 10.15 inches of rain.
