In 1918, more than 4,000 men from the local district were expected to register to serve in the Great War.

In 1968, Illini Union officials reported it would cost as much as $10,000 to make repairs for damages from the protests there. Five chandaliers were damaged when students hung from them.

In 2003, Vermilion County had a syphilis outbreak, with health department officials reporting 14 cases so far.
