3 county board candidates to stay on ballot after objections withdrawn

URBANA — Bids challenging the candidacies of three Champaign County Board hopefuls are no more.

Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten made the announcement Friday morning, saying objections to the candidacies have been withdrawn.

Under scrutiny were the candidacies of Republican P.J. Trautman in District 6 and Democrats Charles Young in District 6 and Christopher Stohr in District 10.

The objections had been mired in controversy, as Democrats called for Hulten, a Republican, to step down from the electoral board that was to decide on the challenges, claiming he was biased. Hulten refused to recuse himself.

The three-person electoral board had also been due to decide whether the objections were filed on time.
