In 1918, Clara Smith Stiechen gave a talk at First Presbyterian Church in Champaign about life on the front during the Great War.

In 1968, the musical group REO Speedwagon was announced as the featured performer Sept. 20 at Chances R in Champaign.

In 2003, developer Peter Fox proposed a multipurpose center to be located on 20 acres owned by the University of Illinois at the southeast corner of St. Mary's Road and First Street, south of Assembly Hall. Construction would start in October 2004, and the facility would be open for business in September 2005.
