Savoy Recreation Center's new weight room a popular draw

SAVOY — The new upstairs weight room at the Savoy Recreation Center has been a popular addition, program supervisor Kollin Marquardt said.

The weight room opened last month, and it's available for both those with memberships and others on a daily-pass basis, he said.

The new weight room is above the gym and shares the upstairs with a walking track. It includes three half-racks, a functional cable machine, benches and dumbbells.

The rec center still also has a weight room with eight machines downstairs, "but it wasn't getting the job done for everybody, and we didn't have any free weights," Marquardt said.

Both the upstairs and downstairs areas also have new flooring, he said.

The rec center is at 402 Graham Drive, Savoy. It's fall program book includes basic weightlifting and intermediate weight-training classes for ages 14 and up, both coming up in November.
