Urbana group seeking costume donations for low-income kids

URBANA — A group of unmarried folks in Urbana are asking for donations of new or gently used Halloween costumes for low-income children in that city.

Giovanna Dibenedetto, a member of Real Life Singles, said costumes may be dropped off at the Urbana City Building, 400 S. Vine St., through Sept. 30.

The group will distribute them to children in need on Oct. 6.

If you can't drop off at the city building, email RealLifeSingles2016@gmail.com to arrange for a pick-up or call Dibenedetto at 217-418-3313 for more information.

The same group, which helped host a block party Aug. 11 in southeast Urbana, is also hosting a "Rename the 'Hood" contest to reflect a more positive image for the residential around the intersection of Vawter and Silver streets west of Philo Road.

On Oct. 27, the group will have a trick-or-treat parade through the neighborhood, including the apartments, and end with a dinner where residents will vote on the name. Prizes will be awarded for the top three.
