Improvements at Champaign's Heritage Park start this week

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Park District is beginning improvements to Heritage Park this week.

Park district planner Bridgette Moen said the work to restore the shoreline of the lake, improve natural areas and add a new path system at the park at 2101 W. Bradley Ave. will get underway by week's end.

"The lake at Heritage Park will receive shoreline restoration and a new path to surround the lake, making it easier for pedestrians to enjoy the surrounding scenery," Moen said. "Shoreline restoration will remedy current issues with shoreline erosion at the lake."

Work is expected to continue through May 2019, Moen said.

While both the Greenbelt Trail that leads to Heritage Park and the park itself will remain open throughout the construction period, the parking lot on Bradley will be closed the entire time.

Moen urged park visitors to be cautious and aware of construction areas around the lake.
