Urbana man escapes fire that destroys mobile home

URBANA — An Urbana man escaped a fire that destroyed his home in northeast Urbana on Wednesday.

Shortly after noon, firefighters were called to the Loral Mobile Home Park to find a home engulfed in flames.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Will Davis said the occupant, Gordon Wilson, 59, was home when someone knocked on his door to alert him his house was on fire. Wilson got out safely, Davis said.

Davis said the fire moved quickly, consuming most of the structure.

"The roof is completely gone. It still has two sides left, but the roof is caved down," he said.

Firefighters from Eastern Prairie were joined by others from Savoy, Carroll, and Edge-Scott, Davis said.

The park is located off Bartlow Road.
