Watseka man dies from Wednesday accident injuries

URBANA — An elderly Watseka man has died from injuries he received in a head-on crash in Iroquois County Wednesday afternoon.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Howard Kissack, 82, died at 8:37 p.m. Friday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. No autopsy will be done.

Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Mr. Kissack was driving a van that was involved in a three-vehicle accident east of Watseka.

The Iroquois County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened at the intersection of U.S. 24 and County Road 3190 East when an eastbound pickup truck driven by Patricia Allford, 70, of Sheldon, tried to pass a semi-trailer tractor and struck Mr. Kissack's westbound van head-on.

The pickup and van then struck the rear of the semi, the sheriff's release said.

Allford and Mr. Kissack were taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka and later transferred to Carle. Allford, who was ticketed for improper lane usage, remained at Carle in serious condition Saturday.

A passenger in Mr. Kissack's van, Michael H. Strong, 56, of Rockford, was also taken to Carle with serious injuries but information about his condition was not available.
