Gas prices have dipped under $2 per gallon at many service stations in East Central Illinois.

Patrick DeHaan, an analysis for GasBuddy, cited "economic jitters, Iran sanction waivers, high supply, lower demand" as reasons.

However, he said, don't expect prices to continue to plummet heading into a busy holiday travel season.

"I wouldn't expect much more improvement: oil prices are up ahead of OPEC's meeting (Thursday) to discuss and likely cut oil production, which will likely boost oil prices in the days ahead and thus stifle the drop at the pump," he said.

The national average for a gallon of unleaded gas is $2.45, according to AAA. In Illinois, it's $2.36.
