Coroner identifies man found dead in car on Illinois 1 near Rossville

DANVILLE — The Vermilion County coroner has released the name of a man found dead behind the wheel of his car last week on Illinois 1 south Rossville but said a cause of death has not yet been determined.

Coroner Jane McFadden said Danville attorney Steven L. Blakely, 53, was found dead in his vehicle at 1:47 a.m. Dec. 4 with no apparent injuries.

An accident report from the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department said deputies found the car in the ditch along Illinois 1 near County Road 3450 N, immediately south of Rossville, and the rear of the vehicle was submerged in standing water..

An autopsy has been done, but McFadden said she will not know a cause of death until toxicology reports come back, and that will take a few weeks.

Mr. Blakely was a law partner at Acton and Snyder on North Street in downtown Danville.

Sheriff's investigators do not suspect any foul play.
