UDPATE: Family safe after blaze on North Neil

CHAMPAIGN — Nobody was injured in a house fire Sunday night on Champaign’s north side.

Deputy Fire Marshall Randy Smith said firefighters were called to a two-story home at 1312 N. Neil St. at 7:35 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming out of the second floor.

Under the leadership of Battalion Chief Tyler Funk, firefighters first attacked the fire from the outside and then proceeded with an interior attack.

All the occupants of the home got out safely, but Smith said they would be displaced by the fire.

Smith said the fire appeared to have started on the second floor. The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.

Nobody was injured.
