Champaign man accused of exposing himself near Illini Union Bookstore

URBANA — A Champaign man has been charged with public indecency for allegedly exposing himself early Thursday on campus.

A University of Illinois police report said about 4 a.m., a person saw a man on the walkway between Coble Hall and the Illini Union Bookstore in the 800 block of South Wright Street, C, with his pants around his knees, engaged in an act of self-gratification.

When the man on the walkway saw the witness, he pulled up his pants and ran.

Police located him nearby out of breath with his pants unbuckled. He was identified as Ernesto Valencia-Godinez, 19, who listed an address in the 900 block of South Fifth Street.

He admitted to police he had been engaged in exposing himself and was identified by the witness, the report said.

The charges against him are Class A misdemeanors carrying a maximum penalty upon conviction of up to 364 days in the county jail.

Judge John Kennedy told Valencia-Godinez to be back in court March 6.
