Motorist struck by bullet near Georgetown; man shot outside Danville house

DANVILLE — The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department and Danville police were busy Thursday investigating separate shooting incidents in the area.

The first was around 6 p.m. Wednesday along Illinois 1 just north of Georgetown, where the sheriff's department said a 28-year-old woman driving on the highway was struck by a stray bullet that entered her vehicle. Preliminary investigation determined that there was a dispute at a residence in the area, resulting in shots being fired and hitting the woman's passing vehicle. The sheriff's department did not release information on the woman's condition.

The second incident took place at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, when Danville police were called to a house in the 800 block of Southmoor Drive for a report of shots fired. Officers found a 27-year-old Danville man with a gunshot wound to his wrist. He told them he was visiting a friend at the house and was shot while standing outside his vehicle. The man was taken to the hospital, and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

Danville police ask anyone with information about that shooting to contact them at 217-431-2250 or, if wishing to remain anonymous, Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-8477 or vccrimestoppers.org.
