In 1919, Harold H. Holtzman was appointed colonel of the First Regiment of the Cadet Brigade at the University of Illinois.

In 1969, area Eisner food stores denied giving any support to the California grape boycott movement. An Eisner spokesman said they would continue to offer California table grapes in their grocery stores.

In 2004, Monticello announced plans for a Chocolate Fantasy festival to promote Valentine gift shopping and indulge chocolate lovers. Tickets, at $10 each, entitled bearers to chocolate treats at 11 locations: Bean Scene Cafe, Boka Shoppe, Celebrations, Creative Crafts, Kackleberry Korner, Prairie Fire Glass, Skinner's Coachhouse Antiques, Steeple Gallery, The Brown Bag, WackyNackies and Ziemer Gallery.
