UPDATE: Man in critical condition after shooting outside Champaign convenience store

UPDATE, 4:15 p.m. Tuesday:

CHAMPAIGN — A 20-year-old Urbana man was critically injured in a shooting Monday evening outside a north Champaign convenience store.

Police responded to Red Fox, 2000 N Neil St., at 5:27 p.m., where there was an apparent bullet hole visible in the door of the store.

Lt. Nate Rath declined to comment on what may have led to the shooting other than to say it was a verbal argument and that several shots were fired. He wouldn't say if more than one person may have been present when the man was shot.

The victim remained hospitalized in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon. He was shot outside the convenience store, Rath said.

Police collected evidence but have not released any information on a suspect.

CHAMPAIGN — Police are at the scene of a shooting late Monday afternoon in north Champaign.

Police said they were called to a report of shots fired at 5:27 p.m. at or near the Red Fox convenience store, 2000 N. Market St.

No information was immediately available as to whether anyone was injured.

No arrests have been reported.
