UPDATE: No injuries in shots-fired call at Danville apartment complex

UPDATE, 6:25 p.m.:

DANVILLE — A call of shots fired at an apartment complex on Danville's northeast side drew a large police presence around midday Wednesday but resulted in no injuries, according to Public Safety Director Larry Thomason.

The call came in around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Vermilion Gardens apartment complex, a property that includes several separate multi-unit apartment buildings on North Bowman Avenue near East Winter Avenue.

Thomason said initial reports were that the shooter was in one of the buildings.

Police conducted a search of the apartment units and did not find an alleged shooter, but some individuals were taken to the Public Safety Building for questioning, Thomason said.

About a dozen Danville police and Vermilion County sheriff’s squad cars were on the scene.

Officers and deputies in both uniform and plain clothes were spread around multiple buildings on the grounds of the apartment complex for about two hours while a search of the buildings continued.

At least one officer with a gun drawn could be seen from Bowman, where traffic from both directions continued to flow in the southbound lane while the northbound lane was blocked by police vehicles.

DANVILLE — About a dozen Danville police and Vermilion County sheriff's squad cars were on the scene of a shots-fired call Wednesday morning at the Vermilion Gardens apartment complex on North Bowman Avenue.

Officers and deputies in both uniform and plain clothes were spread around multiple buildings on the grounds of the apartment complex on the city's northeast side.

At least one officer with a gun drawn could be seen from Bowman.

At 11:30 a.m., Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said police responded to a call of shots fired.

Thomason said no one was hit, but at 12:30 p.m., squad cars and police were still on the scene spread across the complex, which is across the street from the Danville Lutheran Church and School at 1930 N. Bowman Ave. The school is on lockdown.

Traffic on Bowman continued to pass by the large apartment complex. Squad cars filled the northbound lane of Bowman adjacent to the complex, and traffic from both directions was moving in the southbound lane.
