In 1919, the Big Four Railroad agreed to make improvements to North Webber Street in Urbana. The Big Four would provide the cinders, and township employees would grade and roll the permanent pavement.

In 1969, about 800 Jehovah WItnesses conducted a three-day assembly at Franklin Junior High School in Champaign.

In 2004, country legend Willie Nelson, founder of the annual Farm Aid concerts, went on record as trying to organize a 20th annual Farm Aid in Champaign-Urbana.
