In 1919, Douglas County Sheriff Earl Parker recovered an automobile that had been stolen in Decatur. It had been abandoned in a farm near Tuscola.

In 1969, plans were announced to convert Champaign's famous Round Barn at Springfield and Mattis avenues in Champaign into a luxury restaurant. The barn was built in 1914. Developers said the restaurant would serve steaks, prime rib and seafood.

In 2004, A veteran of the Vermilion County Board was tapped as its new leader. The board unanimously elected William Boyer as chairman. Boyer, a Democrat from Indianola, replaced Todd Lee, who resigned in March to become the East Central Illinois division director of Gov. Rod Blagojevich's new
