In 1919, it took two days to count all the ballots, but S.E. Tucker was re-elected mayor of Champaign by 859 votes.

In 1969, a Strategic Air Command B-58 Hustler bomber crashed near Danville after its three-man crew bailed out and parachuted to safety. They were attempting to land at Chanute Air Force Base. The $8 million bomber exploded when it hit the earth. Pieces of wreckage were strewn for miles.

In 2004, Urbana firefighters battled a fire at 704 Evergreen Circle, U, where damage was estimated at $75,000. Nobody was home at the time, and there were no injuries. The fire was believed to have started in the kitchen
