In 1919, Royal Stipes and C.D. Brownell both took part in a lively campaign for president of the Champaign school board. The top issue of the campaign was whether to build an addition to Dr. Howard School.

In 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krannert of Indianapolis, who donated Krannert Center to the UI, spent the day at the Chi Phi House,the fraternity that Herman Krannert helped to found in 1912.

In 2004, a pro-Chief Illiniwek student group held a “sit-out” in front of the Swanlund Administration Building. Students for Chief Illiniwek offered hamburgers and sodas to Swanlund administrators and employees from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
