Danville man dies after being shot in fight at Fair Oaks complex

DANVILLE — Police are now investigating their fifth homicide this year — and second in three days.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said a 25-year-old man who was shot during a fight at the Fair Oaks public housing complex on Wednesday afternoon died from his injuries at 3:05 p.m. today at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Northrup said Roosevelt Anderson Jr. died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police were called to the 900 block of Redden Court at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a man lying in the road with a gunshot wound. He was located and rushed to an area hospital for treatment.

Danville police Cmdr. Josh Webb said a witnesses told police that a dispute between several men erupted into a physical altercation, which took place shortly before the victim was shot.

There is no information on whether police have any suspects or have made any arrests at this time.

The shooting occurred just two days after Cedric M. Halthon, 33, of Danville was found lying in an alley in the 800 block of Sherman Street, on the city's west side.

In that incident, police were called to the area for a report of shots fired at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Halthon was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had been incarcerated for a 2014 drug case, and was shot on the same day he was released from the Kewanee Life Skills Reentry Center.

Police have not said whether the two murders are connected.

Both shootings remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Danville police at 217-431-2250 or, if wishing to remain anonymous, Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-8477.
