In 1919, the Illinois Knights of Columbus announced it would hold its state convention in Champaign.

In 1969, due to public demand, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held a public hearing on the Oakley Dam and Reservoir project at the Monticello High School Auditorium.

In 2004, Champaign-Urbana was a better place to do business than it was in 2003, according to a ranking of small cities by Forbes magazine. The community ranked 20th among 168 small cities in the magazine's "Bst Places for Business" study, up from 34th in 2003.
