In 1919, area residents were hopeful there soon would be a settlement to the strike of the Milk Dealers' Association so that milk deliveries could resume.

In 1969, when rural Champaign farmer Don Dean entered Mercy Hospital for an operation, 25 neighboring farmers pitched in to plant his 500-acre corn crop for him.

In 2004, Douglas County Sheriff John Chambers announced he was retiring as Douglas County's sheriff, turning over his badge at least on an interim basis to his administrative secretary, Douglas County Undersheriff Sandra Decker. She would become the first grandma to serve as Douglas County sheriff.
