Nominations for Crime Stoppers award open until June 1

CHAMPAIGN — Nominations are open until June 1 for Champaign County Crime Stoppers' Dave Benton Crime Fighter Award.

Named for the late WCIA-TV anchor who served on the Crime Stoppers board, the award recognizes a Champaign County citizen who has made a difference in fighting crime.

The person must have been involved in an ongoing activity or program that helped to stop a crime or solve a case or made a big difference in resolving a dangerous situation that made their neighborhood, community or Champaign County safer.

Established following the May 2015 death of Mr. Benton due to cancer, the award will be presented during the annual meeting of the Crime Stoppers board of directors on July 11. The winner will receive $500.
