In 1919, someone broke into the Vriner Confectionery in Urbana and stole a freezer full of ice cream.

In 1969, the Economic Opportunity Council of Champaign County received a $51,337 grant to conduct a Head Start program in Champaign, Urbana and Rantoul for the Office of Economic Opportunity.

In 2004, Judge John Shonkwiler, chief judge of the 6th Judicial Circuit, which includes Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie and Piatt counties, announced a vacancy existed due to the appointment of Heidi Ladd as circuit judge.
