In 1919, Piatt County held a combination track and oratorical meet. Following traditional track events ranging from the pole vault to shot put to 50-yard dash and half-mile relay, participants then competed in literary contests, extemporaneous speaking and oratorical declamation.

In 1969, Interstate 74 was inching to completion, with 8.8 miles still to be paved west of Mahomet. When the 215 miles of I-74 is complete, it will provide an express route across Illinois from the Indiana state border near Danville to Rock Island-Moline.

In 2004, a new Bennigan's Grill & Tavern opened at 702 Town Center Blvd., C. The 7,000-square-foot restaurant, located in the former Damon's restaurant building, had seating for 300 and a private party room. Bennigan's featureds appetizers, steaks, sandwiches, pasta, salads, desserts and a children's menu. The managing partner, Mike Sands, is a University of Illinois graduate and a former manager of the Decatur location.
