ST. JOSEPH — It's still early, but behind-the-scenes work will start in the coming months on the next phase of sprucing up the St. Joseph Woodard Community Park and Sports Complex.

After adding a baseball diamond last year, village officials hope to build a community center, soccer field and walking path on park grounds.

Once a planning committee comes together this summer, members will seek donations to fund the project, said St. Joseph Mayor Tami Fruhling-Voges.

One St. Joseph resident worked with an architect and came forward with a proposal for possible park additions, Fruhling-Voges said.

She wants St. Joseph to replicate the success of its Kolb Park renovations, which improved restrooms, parking and bike trail paths last fall.

"With the community as it is, we think we can make it happen," she said.
