CHAMPAIGN – Lloyd Curry Hodges, 71, of Champaign, Ill. passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Ill.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr. West, Savoy, Ill.

Lloyd was born March 20, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., to the union of David R. Hodges, Jr. and Trudie M. (Bennett) Hodges.

On June 27, 1964, Lloyd married the love of his life, JoAnn Armistead. Two sons were born to this union, Lloyd Cary Hodges and Lyle Joseph Hodges.

He received his formal education in Madison, Ill., where he was a student athlete, participating in both football and basketball.

He graduated from Madison High School in 1954 and started his college career at Northern Illinois University, where he became a member of the varsity basketball team.

After being drafted and completing two years in the U. S. Army, Lloyd continued his education at the University of Illinois, where he earned both an undergraduate degree in Economics and a Ph.D. in Business Administration.

Lloyd's career path included both executive and academic positions.

He began his career in 1963 as senior level chemical analyst at Allied Chemical Corporation in East St. Louis, Ill. He later held an executive position with the Kroger Company in St. Louis, Missouri.

Lloyd's 20-plus years in higher education included research and faculty positions which were in the college of Business Administration at the University of Illinois and Illinois Wesleyan. He was also an instructor at Illinois State University and Eastern Illinois University. Lloyd held the administrative position of Associate Director for Planning and Policy at the National Center for Supercomputing Application (NCSA).

During his professional and civic service, Lloyd never stopped giving of himself to his students, colleagues and his community.

Some of his proudest moments included leading his University of Illinois students to the International Case Competition at the University of Southern California.

He was co-founder and president of the Newport Illinois Jaycee Chapter; member of the board of directors of Champaign's McKinley YMCA and youth league basketball coach; and member and vice-chairman of the board of Fire and Police Commission of Champaign, Ill.

He was a member of the Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. His honors include induction into Sigma Iota Epsilon, where he served as secretary of the organization; received the Illinois Business Council Fellowship; nominated for the Academy of Management's Doctoral Consortium in Strategic Management.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 44 years, JoAnn Hodges; two sons, Lloyd Cary Hodges (Nickole) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Lyle Joseph Hodges of New York City, New York; grandson Logan Grey Hodges and granddaughter Maya JoAnn Hodges of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers, Harold J. Williams (Betty) of Houston, Texas, David R. Hodges, III (Andrea) of Clayton, Mo.; sisters, Ernestine Russell of Chicago, Ill., Ann L. Mullins (Herbert) of St. Louis, Mo., and Mary A. Shaw (Ronald) of Florissant, Mo., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Dunbar 54 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 13, Madison, IL 62060 or to the Carle Cancer Center, 602 West University Ave., Urbana, IL 61801.
