ACLU fighting for freedom from religion

Monday April 17, 2006

It should come as no surprise that the Public Expression of Religion Act, H.R. 2679, is sponsored by a right-wing Republican Christian (U.S. Rep. John Hostettler of Indiana) and co-sponsored by 35 Republicans, most of whom are also far-right conservatives. All 36 of this bill's sponsors are Christians who, like George W. Bush, have an agenda that includes turning America into a Christian theocracy and the promotion of big business for personal gain.

Unlike the religious organizations that the ACLU is fighting on issues concerning the Boy Scouts, crosses and Christmas and Ten Commandments displays on public property, the ACLU does not have the financial backing required to fight to keep the public forum free of religious influence.
