All should come to aid of Chief Illiniwek
It has been said that history repeats itself. By 1680 the Illiniwek confederation tribes were at war with the Iroquois. It finally took the Sauk, Fox, Kickapoo and Potawatomi to drive the Illiniwek from their land in 1765. The surviving Illiniwek moved west across the Mississippi River.
It is now 2006 and the American Indian tribes are again waging war against the one entity that is preserving the dignity and heritage of the American Indian – the University of Illinois' symbol Chief Illiniwek.
