Racist views helped end Chief Illiniwek
May I be among the first to congratulate Professor Stephen Kaufman and his merry band of bigots on removing yet another icon of the American Indian people from the pop culture landscape.
As a descendent of the Apache people, I took pride in the way Chief Illiniwek presented our culture, but alas the racist views of a few have convinced the board of the University of Illinois to remove our heritage. Maybe had the Chief been a drunken gambler with a rifle he would have been more accepted by Kaufman and his crew.
