Offer lessons of hope, not fear and cruelty
I have been reading the recent letters to the editor regarding "The Kite Runner" and I wanted to express my gratitude to those who chose to stand up for what they believe in. Although I do not live in the Champaign school district I have taken an interest in this issue.
We as parents should be involved and question what our children are reading and learning in school. As far as this book is concerned, I think exposing children to rape scenes in the interest of broadening their perspectives is shallow, ignorant and lacks character of quality education. I would not allow my children to see a rape scene on television in my home, nor would I allow them to read about one. Therefore why would I expect any different from the school?
