Exercising joggers must exercise caution
I'd like to apologize to the group of joggers on Old Church Road at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday for startling them when I had to slam on my brakes.
It's dark at 6:30 a.m., especially so on cloudy days, and they were jogging or walking as a group down Old Church Road, a country road with several jogs and rises, in the dark. They were all wearing dark-colored shirts.
I came up over a rise and suddenly saw a dark mass moving in the road ahead of me.I assumed it was a deer, so I quickly braked, squealing my tires and startling them. I apologize.
But for their own safety and the cardiac health of drivers coming upon them in the dark, I suggest wearing reflective clothing, wearing a light like the couple of joggers a bit further up the road did or possibly jogging somewhere in town on a sidewalk that's lit at 6:30 a.m.
Since they were all similarly-clothed in dark shirts, I'm guessing they might be part of some group or team. I ask their organization to provide them with safer, more reflective uniforms, to avoid a potentially disastrous situation.
