Encouraging start for Urbana's police review board

Sunday December 23, 2007

Only time will tell whether it was a good idea for the city of Urbana to establish a police review board – believed to be the first of its kind in downstate Illinois – but Mayor Laurel Prussing's first appointments to the board give it a promising start.

The seven-member board includes a fairly good cross-section of the city – by geography, gender and race, although apparently not by politics – and most importantly, some well-established citizens who won't be coming to the board with an ax to grind. None of the appointees are among those who agitated for the police review board. Interestingly, none of the appointees applied, she said.

Let me understand this "NONE OF THE APPOINTEES ARE AMONG THOSE WHO AGITATED FOR THE POLICE REVIEW BOARD.....NONE OF THE APPOINTEES APPLIED" she said. In other words...THIS IS A HAND PICKED, BY LAUREL PRUSSING, "REVIEW BOARD", NONE OF WHICH "APPLIED" FOR THEIR "POSITION", SOON TO BE "INDOCTRINATED" OOPS, "UNDERGO AN EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND FAMILIARIZATION PROCESS." (YA GOTTA PLAY BY THA RULES, LAURA'S RULES)

HOWEVER, MORE THAN 30 PEOPLE DID APPLY FOR A POSITION ON THIS "BOARD OF REVIEW", WHICH SHE SAYS "SHE WAS PLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE 'APPLICANTS', AND THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE JOB AND TO THE COMMUNITY" BUT NONE OF THESE PEOPLE WERE GOOD ENOUGH TO BE "SELECTED" FOR A POSITION ON THE "BOARD OF REVIEW"

WHY DID SHE EVEN BOTHER WITH THE CHARADE OF TAKING "APPLICATIONS" FOR A POSITION ON THE "BOARD OF REVIEW" IF SHE WAS GOING TO "SELECT" HER OWN CRONIES AFTER ALL WAS SAID AND DONE??!!

"I DON'T THINK THERE IS GOING TO BE A BIG NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. I DON'T THINK THERE'S A BIG ISSUE OUT THERE...." she said. WELL, DUHH, THAT WAS BROUGHT UP AS THIS WHOLE FARSE "REVIEW BOARD" WAS FIRST DISCUSSED.

AT PRESENT, THEY WILL NOT BE PAID, BUT LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS, MY GUESS IS THAT THE WORKLOAD WILL BE SO MUCH THAT THE "APPOINTEES" WILL NEED TO BE COMPENSATED AND THERE WILL BE ANOTHER DEPARTMENT WITH A BUDGET STEALING THE TAXPAYER'S HARD EARNED TAX DOLLARS FOR ANOTHER BLOATED NEEDLESS "MAKEWORK" GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT.

MICHAEL FUREST IS RIGHT THE "BOZO'S" IN URBANA ARE "RUNNING THE ASSYLUM (AKA: CITY GOVERNMENT)"

This is Todd Rent, Human Relations Officer at the City of Urbana and staff liaison to the Civilian Police Review Board. I coordinated the selection process and believe it might be helpful to provide a brief note of clarification.

Contrary to the impression given above, each of the Mayoral appointees to the CPRB participated in the application process. A more clear and accurate statement would have read that None of the individuals appointed to the Mayors Task Force on Citizen Police Review applied to the Civilian Police Review Board.

Apparently, what Todd Rent is stating: "None of the individuals appointed to 'the mayor's' Task Force on Citizen Police Review applied to the Civilian Police Review Board". There must be two distinct new beaurocracies (boards) to review police actions after the fact when often, the officer must act in a split second, possibly in a lifethretening situation. "The Board(s) is(are) still appointed by the mayor and I'm sure she would not appoint anyone other than who would "tow her line" as that is just the type of politician she has been.

To even think that this(these) board(s) would be politically diverse would be ludicrous at best, especially after undergoing the indoctrination, oops the "training, education, and familiarization process"!
