Training set for volunteers for Provena program
CHAMPAIGN -- Volunteers are needed to help older Champaign County residents who need transportation and other assistance.
The Provena Center for Healthy Aging's Faith in Action program will hold orientation sessions for people interested in becoming volunteers from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 26 and June 14, and from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 11, at its facility at 410 E. University Ave., C.
The program serves Champaign County residents who are 55 and older who are in need.
Volunteers provide transportation to doctor's appointments and the pharmacy, grocery shopping for home-bound seniors, companionable home visits, light housekeeping and meal preparation, minor household repairs and yard clean-ups, office assistance and respite for caregivers.
