First Christian Church collecting items to send to Joplin, Mo.

CHAMPAIGN — First Christian Church in Champaign is collecting relief supplies to send to Joplin, Mo., to help victims of Sunday's tornado.

A member donated a semi-truck, trailer and driver to take supplies, and the church is collecting a list of items, listed below.

Collections began today and continue through 7 p.m. at the church, which is located at 3601 S. Staley Road, C.

They'll begin again at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Organizers hope to load the truck Tuesday evening and depart Wednesday morning.

Those who wish to donate money can make the check out to the church, with "Joplin Relief" in the memo line. The church will forward 100 percent of all donations to agencies in the Joplin area.

Several members of the church lived in Joplin before moving to Champaign-Urbana, and they know people in Joplin who've asked for help. For more information, call the church at 356-1649.

Items needed include:

— Baby hygiene products (all ages)

— Baby food products (formulas, food for all stages, cereals, snack foods, juice)

— Baby feeding tools (bottles, sipper cups, spoons, pacifiers, and bowls)

— Toiletries (soap, shampoo, hair products, towels, wash cloths)

— Bottled water

— Drink products (water, juice, sports drinks, coffee, tea, soda pop)

— Canned foods and vegetables, including dinners Chef Boyardee, Dinty Moore and even boxed macaroni and cheese

— Dining products (paper plates, plastic silverware, cups)

— Cleaning supplies (bleach, antibacterial cleaning products)

— Paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, napkins)

— Trash bags

— Batteries of all sizes

— Medical supplies

— Feminine hygiene products (all kinds)

— Condiments (sugar, sweetener, cream, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salt, pepper)

— Bedding and blankets

— Bibles

— Clothing including socks (new or like new only)

— Shoes (new or like new only)
