Benefit set for uninsured Georgetown cancer patient
GEORGETOWN — Friends and family will hold a benefit for 28-year-old Katasha Ellis on Saturday at the Georgetown Fairgrounds, 413 N. Seminary St.
Ellis, who does not have medical insurance, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and brain cancer. She has completed radiation and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
The event begins at 2 p.m. with a meal of Terry Lewis' pork chops, cheesy potatoes, green beans, applesauce, bread and butter, dessert and tea or lemonade. The meal is served until 7 p.m.
An auction begins at 3 p.m., and tickets will be sold for a drawing for a number of other items. The benefit will include two raffles for a whole hog with processing, with the drawings at 10 p.m. People do not need to be present for the ticket drawings in order to win.
Bands entertaining during the benefit include Suspicious Activity from 2 to 4 p.m., the John Foley Band from 5 to 7 p.m., Bolero Reunion from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and 90 Proof from 9 to 11 p.m. Arm bands for the entertainment building are $5 per person, with children younger than 12 for free.
Money will go to the Katasha Ellis Benefit II Fund at the First National Bank of Catlin in Georgetown. Cash donations can be made at the Georgetown or Catlin facilities.
