Danville city council will consider resolution urging Quinn not to cut income taxes to cities

DANVILLE - Responding to Gov. Pat Quinn's proposal to reduce income tax revenue to municipalities, Danville alderman are going to consider a resolution urging the governor to reconsider the reduction and urging the Legislature to not support it.

The proposal, which calls for the state to reduce the share of state income tax revenue that is sent to cities across Illinois, would cost the city of Danville $850,000.

Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said it would actually mean a $1 million reduction, because the city would have to cut personnel to make up the $850,000 loss and that would mean additional costs in unemployment and benefits.

"We are not in the situation to give up $850,000 to the state," said Eisenhauer, who passed out copies of the resolution at Tuesday's city council meeting. Aldermen will consider approving the resolution at a future meeting.
